Her Majesty the Queen's State Limousine
What finer endorsement for Mulliner could there be than to deliver a personal vehicle to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II herself? We were determined to provide her with what is perhaps the most famous example of a modern coachbuilt car. The Bentley was created to mark the 50th anniversary of The Queen’s accession to the British throne.
The Queen’s Bentley is based on the pinnacle of our past luxury cars, the Bentley Arnage. Yet it is quite unlike any other Arnage on the road.
It was necessary to extend the wheelbase, to afford more room for passengers in the back. It is also wider than a production Arnage and, importantly, the roof is set higher, making it easier for Her Majesty to get out in a suitably dignified manner.
Mulliner worked with great innovation – the rear seat position was determined using a model of the same height as The Queen, while the doors are hinged at the rear and open through 90 degrees, enabling her to practically walk out of the car. The designers, engineers and artisan craftsmen of Mulliner delivered much more than functional modifications. Like any state limousine, the car is used for public occasions. To ensure that as many well-wishers as possible have the opportunity to see The Queen, the team at Mulliner created a ‘panoramic glasshouse’ with greater visibility from the outside than can be found on any other car.
The car’s security features must remain secret for obvious reasons. But suffice to say that it safeguards its occupants in a way that no other could. Mulliner provided a coachbuilt car, truly fit for royalty.
