Bentley Motorsport enters Spa 24 Hours with five Continental GT3s

Bentley Motorsport is heading to the biggest GT3 race in the world this weekend – the 24 Hours of Spa – with its largest ever customer racing entry. Five Continental GT3s from three customer teams will contest the Ardennes endurance event, which is the third round of both the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup and Intercontinental GT Challenge (IGTC).

Aiming for overall honours in the event are three Bentley entries, one from CMR and two from K-PAX Racing. Four of Bentley’s works drivers – Maxime Soulet (BE), Jules Gounon (FR), Jordan Pepper (ZA) and Seb Morris (GB) will support the teams alongside engineering expertise from Bentley and its technical partner M-Sport.

Team Parker Racing, which took the Pro-Am class pole position for Bentley in 2017, will this year challenge for the Silver Cup class honours. The class is aimed at nurturing and developing the next generation of talent and the car includes three of the four Bentley Motorsport Academy drivers – Euan McKay (GB), Nicolai Kjaegaard (DN) and Frank Bird (GB) – with the the fourth – Pierre Alexandre Jean (FR) - racing for CMR.

In the Am class, CMR will continue Bentley’s commitment to amateur racing by fielding one car with the aim of taking the class win.

While ultimately aiming for a prestigious Spa 24 Hours victory, each of the crews will also look to score maximum championship points in what is the third and penultimate round of the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup. In addition, each of the five cars is registered to collect manufacturer points towards Bentley’s Intercontinental GT Challenge campaign, which started with a win at Bathurst 12 Hours and a points-finish at Indianapolis 8 Hour.

Full-season IGTC drivers Soulet, Gounon and Pepper will compete together with K-PAX Racing at Spa to continue their championship charge. The trio, which will also contest Kyalami 9 Hour together in December, heads into this weekend with a one-point championship lead of the drivers’ title.

Bentley’s Director of Motorsport, Paul Williams, comments: “It will be a very proud moment for our team to watch five Bentley Motorsport customer cars cross the start line at Spa. As a company, we are passionate about our customers and taking them on extraordinary journeys and this is certainly an exciting journey to be on together. The team owners, drivers and technical staff all strive for excellence and we work very closely with them and M-Sport to deliver the best results possible.

“The biggest challenge we all have this weekend is the weather. As the race is later in the year, the temperatures will be lower and getting heat into the tyres will be the key to success. We did some good running in the wet and dry at the official test, where M-Sport brought along an additional test car, and we have had some real-world experience in the rain with all of our customer teams to prepare us.”

The 2020 season has been Bentley’s largest customer racing programme to date and it has taken overall podiums with Team Parker Racing, CMR, T3-HRT Motorsport and Team Lazarus. K-PAX Racing showed the car’s strength at Indianapolis 8 Hour last month, where it led the race in the wet until being taken out of the running by a back-marker.

The 24 Hours of Spa takes place on 22-25 October. Fans can follow the action from all Bentley’s motorsport and esports action on social media by searching @BentleyRacing on Twitter and @BentleyRacingOfficial on Instagram.
