Bentley Lighthouse Award winners

Jo Barnard
Fernando Laposse
Inaugural award

The 2025 recipient, Jo Barnard, is the founder of London design agency Morrama, where Jo’s work focuses on user-focused design with a strong commitment to environmental responsibility. Recent projects have included a menopause treatment concept that uses AI to customise pills based on the patient’s symptoms and a set of children’s headphones crafted from recycled agricultural packaging, for the brand Kibu.

In naming Jo the winner, the Dezeen jury commented on her approach, explaining that “sustainability has to be driven by brands," they explained, "and [Jo] Barnard challenges her clients to do exactly that.”

Working in collaboration with an indigenous farming community in his native country, Fernando Laposse works to reintroduce lost heirloom crop varieties, repurposing corn husks, for example, to create a new veneering material, which he then applies to the surfaces of furniture he designs. He has also worked on reducing erosion by planting agave plants, then creating furniture and sculptures from the agave sisal fibres.

The Bentley Lighthouse award has been won by three rising creative stars. The inaugural award went to the founder of Natural Material Studio, Bonnie Hvillum.

Design Competitions

2025 Design Competition - Radical Renewal
2024 Design Competition - Start Something Powerful

The 2025 design competition was inspired by the opening of Bentley’s new Design Centre, a 1938 Art Deco building that has been restored and reimagined, resulting in a stunning blend of historical elements with contemporary materials and technology.

The Radical Renewal Competition therefore required entrants to breathe new life into a historic building – whether a celebrated landmark or an overlooked building in need of revival – by balancing both the old and new in a forward-thinking transformation proposal.

2024 saw the launch of the Start Something Powerful design competition, a global call for visionary ideas aimed at shaping how people will live over the next century. In line with Bentley’s century-long legacy of innovation, aesthetics and craftsmanship, entrants were challenged to envision innovative architecture or design concepts that responded to rapid advancements in technology, evolving societal norms and environmental concerns in an effort to transform people’s lives.

The contest received entries from more than 34 countries around the world. Eight designs were shortlisted and three of them shared the £30,000 prize pot.
