On the evening of the 5th March 2007, the day before its official launch at the Geneva Motorshow, a specially invited audience of around 350 guests were treated to a sneak preview of the new Bentley Brooklands at the Société Nautique de Genève. This fabulous venue, home for the Alinghi sailing team, winners of the Americas Cup in 2003, provided a fitting backdrop for a private party to introduce the latest addition to the Bentley model range.
Guests were treated to a fabulous cocktail party at the private club, many taking the opportunity of the relaxed atmosphere to speak with members from the Bentley board who also attended the event. The whole venue was candle lit for the evening and those attending were treated to a sumptuous buffet accompanied by Laurent Perrier Champagne and a display from Swiss watchmaker, Breitling with the “Breitling for Bentley” collection.
As the car was revealed, Dr Franz-Josef Paefgen spoke of the similarities between the sporting successes of the Alinghi team and of Bentley’s motor racing pedigree. Speaking of the vision of W.O. Bentley, the heritage of the ‘Bentley Boys’ and the Brooklands racetrack era of the 1920’s, Dr Paefgen highlighted the comparisons in the meticulous planning and a fiercely competitive spirit that drives success both on land and on water.
W.O. Bentley, who this week enters the European Automotive Hall of Fame, and the ‘Bentley Boys’ were captivated by the allure of motor racing. Their successes at the Le Mans 24 Hour race are well known but Bentleys also enjoyed success at the birthplace of British motor racing – the Brooklands racetrack.
Party guests provided an enthusiastic response to the car, a feeling echoed at the press reveal at the Geneva Motor Show the following morning. Recognition to Bentley of the importance of our history in helping to provide the inspiration for our future.
