Bentley Motorsport takes two top ten places at Silverstone 2017

Bentley Motorsport has finished in fifth and ninth place with its pair of Bentley Team M-Sport Continental GT3s in the Silverstone round of the Blancpain GT Series 2017, taking valuable points towards its championship title campaign.

The number 8 Continental GT3 of Vince Abril (MC), Andy Soucek (ES) and Maxime Soulet (BE) climbed 21 places from its starting position to take fifth place after three hours of wheel-to-wheel action. Strong strategy and exceptional driving meant the number 8 crew took 10 points towards the Blancpain GT Series title and Endurance Series Cup.

The number 7 sister car of Guy Smith (GB), Oliver Jarvis (GB) and Steven Kane (GB) started well, with Smith making-up three places in the opening lap. However, soon into his stint Jarvis was tapped and sent into a spin and, despite a quick recovery, lost several places.

With a strong fight-back from Jarvis and Kane, the number 7 Continental GT3 took ninth place and secured two further championship points in front of a large home crowd.

“We always want to do well at our home race, in front of hundreds of Bentley employees that had made the journey from Crewe,” commented Bentley’s Director of Motorsport Brian Gush. “I’m pleased that our drivers were able to use some very committed driving to take advantage of an effective race strategy and both finish in the points. Ultimately, we lacked the outright pace to fight for the podium positions but scoring championship points at this stage is vital.

“Now we must focus our attention on Bentley Motorsport’s three-car entry in to the toughest race of the season, the Nurburgring 24 Hours, with our European partners Bentley Team Abt.”

Nürburgring 24 Hours takes place on 27/28 May on the world-famous Nordschleife in the Eifel region of Germany.  Follow all the action on Twitter with @BentleyRacing.
