Adam French

Why did you choose a Summer Placement program?
I wanted to do a summer placement to increase my experience and knowledge base within the engineering industry and to build upon a successful industrial placement that I had at Bentley in 2009/10.

What is a typical day like?
No two days are the same. Each day I am kept busy with a variety of jobs that I am given from my supervisor. I have daily interaction with other functions around the business, as well as external suppliers. I learn something new each and every day which will no doubt help me further my career within this industry. On a daily basis I am working with suppliers and engineering teams to ensure that required data is available for new projects.  I am also responsible for using Computer Aided Design tools to ensure the parts we need for the future are correct.  The level of responsibility is fantastic as I feel I am adding real value to the business.

Are you studying for any qualifications?
I have just finished my penultimate year of a Mechanical Engineering Masters Course at the University of Bath.

What's good about working at Bentley?
The good thing about working here is the satisfaction of being able to contribute to a company with the high prestige of Bentley. Furthermore, rather than being treated like an student, you are treated like any other employee, meaning you are given a lot of responsibility and things you do on a daily basis have a real impact on the business.

Any tips or advice you would give to someone applying for a Summer Placement vacancy?
Make sure you come to Bentley full of drive and enthusiasm. Since the placement is only for a short period of time you don’t have long to prove your worth and impress. You must be willing to do any work put your way, and never turn down a job! The more work that you are seen to be able to handle, the better, more challenging tasks you will be given.
